TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Smooth Shipping is a Non-Vessel-Operating Common Carrier, specializing in the export and imports of goods via ocean.

We have an NVOCC License, which is recognized by the Federal Maritime Commission (Copy available upon request).

LIMITED LIABILITY COVERAGE (LLC)

Full Container Load (FCL)
If you are shipping cargo on an FCL basis, the carrier is liable to only $500 of the total shipment as the container your goods are loaded in is consider 1 shipping unit.

Hawaii or Guam Shipping Limited Liability Coverage
If you are shipping cargo to Hawaii or Guam, the carrier is liable to only $0.10 / Pound for any cargo that is damaged or loss while in their possession.

All cargo must be packed properly for export to be eligible for our Limited Liability. If you are shipping used household goods, used vehicles or personal effects, our Limited Liability will only cover loss unless your goods are professionally packed and surveyed.

MARINE INSURANCE

We recommend purchasing marine insurance. There are two types of marine insurance:

All risk insurance

All risk insurance covers damage and or loss of goods. This insurance is only available if, and only if, your goods are professionally packed and stowed for shipping. A packing list with values or commercial invoice must be tendered prior to the shipment sailing.

Total loss insurance

Total loss insurance only covers your cargo if the entire shipment is lost. A packing list with values or commercial invoice must be tendered prior to the shipment sailing.

All cargo must be packed properly for export to be eligible for the above-described insurance. If you are shipping used household goods or personal effects, the above-described insurance will only cover loss unless otherwise agreed upon in writing by Smooth Shipping

(U.S.A.) STORAGE (LCL CARGO ONLY)

Unless otherwise agreed in writing by Smooth Shipping, storage charges will incur after 2 weeks or 10 business days from the time the goods were delivered to our warehouse. Storage charges are rated as such: $0.25/Cubic foot, minimum of $10.00/Day.

TRANSIT TIME

We make every effort to have your shipment arrive at its destination on time. However, we do not guarantee a specific transit time.

DOCUMENTATION

Documentation must be completed and sent to Smooth Shipping, no later than one day after shipment is tendered. Specific instructions will be given in advance and in writing as to what documentation is required for shipping purposes. Failure to complete the documentation required by Smooth Shipping, in writing, can result in a delay of your shipment, storage and Customs penalties or fines.

CONTAINER SCHEDULING

We make every effort to have your container arrive on time at your loading facility. However, due to many factors beyond our control we can’t guarantee a specific delivery time.

AES FILING

If cargo value is greater than $2,500, by law we are required to file your information with US Customs. As a result, a $50.00 charge will be added to your invoice.

DESTINATION CHARGES

All international shipments are subject to destination charges. These charges can include the following: Port Fees, Customs Clearance, Terminal Charges, Agent Handling, Import duty, tax, VAT, etc. These charges are to be paid by the consignee unless otherwise agreed to in writing by Smooth Shipping

CUSTOMS CLEARANCE

It is the responsibility of the consignee to clear customs at destination unless otherwise agreed to in writing by Smooth Shipping.

SHIPPERS RESPONSIBILITY

It is the responsibility of the shipper to know and understand the import laws and regulations of the country they are shipping to.

US CUSTOMS

US Customs can hold, search and confiscate your cargo with or without warning. Any charges that incur as a result are to be paid by the shipper. If shipper refuses to pay, his/her shipment will be placed on hold until charges are paid in full.
